two letters and a number

Update on the nephew

Well, the doctors ran tests and diagnosed the seizures as epilepsy. Gave him medicine to beon ofor two years and sent him home with his parents. Said that if he went two years without any seizures, then he could get off the medicine. IF he had any seizures, the two years started over again from the time of the seizures.

This morning I get amn e-mail from my mother in law saying he's back in children's hospital because he's been having more seizures. They've been lasting less than a minute, but he's still having them after doubling the dosage of medicine. The doc doesn't want them to giv him too much medicine 'cause then he'd be sleeping more and not getting the interaction he needs to "grow up healthy". *rolls eyes* Unfortunately, they also can't keep doubling the dosage in the hopes of controlling the seizures.

The docs haven't found anything medically to show why the seizures are happening. All that they know is that the seizures are traveling from the right side of the brain to the left. At first, one of the nurses or techs mentioned something about some "abnormalities on both sides of the brain", but the neurologist didn't mention anything about that. The speculation is whomever told my sister-in-law and her husband that were referring to the strange brain waves that were causing the seizures.

Well, that's about all the news I have so far. Right now, it's a wait and see on information but I'll let y'all know when I get anything.

Nephew update

Well, little Ian went in for an MRI and apparently the seizures started on the right side of the brain and traveled to the left. The doc has pretty much declared it epilepsy and put him on medicine for two years. If he doesn't have a seizure in those two years, they'll take him of the medicine and see what happens. If he does, the two years start over from that day. The doc gave my sister-in-law and her hubby a video to watch and howo to get in touch with the Epilepsy Foundation for more information.

Nothing else has been said and since he's home from the hospital, we're all hoping no news is good news. So at this point, it's a Wait and See sorta situation, but I thank you all for your prayers and good vibes.

Thoughs and Prayers please...

My five month old nephew is in the hospital. Again. He's been having seizures. Several of them. He started monday, and my parents-in-laws (who were sitting him at the time) rushed him to Children's Medical. He was fine yesterday, then had two this morning.

They haven't found anything wrong with him so far. But the seizures are getting worse.

Please keep him in your thoughts, and/or prayer equivalents. I'd really like a chance to spoil this kid for years to come.

Okay, y'all remember when I took my computer in for a virus and it was like a week and a half before I got it back?

Well, apparently I now have a Trojan:DOS/Alureon.A in my system and everytime my anti-virus contains and removes it before rebooting, it finds it again after the reboot.

*sighs* SO it looks like it's gonna be back into the shop and I hope they give me some sort of break 'cause they were suppose to *stop* this sort of thing..... after all, they're the ones that redid my antivirus and such.

ANd now I can't connect to the 'Net 'cause of this. *growls*

EDIT: Well, turns out the Trojan was in my boot dirive and the computer place was going to charge me again to get everything fixed. *snorts* I called my dad - who works on computers for a living - and he's rebuilding the system for me. DOn't worry, everything important like my stories and music was saved on my new external harddrive (It was on sale for $80). *Grins* I'm thinking of calling it "Phoenix Down".

*grins* after my baby was in the shop for a week and a half (almost two weeks), she's back and with a clean bill of health.

I also have a new keyboard to break in since my last one was well used and almost five years old.

*grumbles at LJ*

Everyone, please be careful when commenting in my journal. I don't want any of my entries suddenly linked to facebook or twitter. Mainly because I don't have a twitter account (Don't want one really), and my computer's in the shop for the second week in a row removing viruses that I got from Facebook.

If you do link me to either of these platforms, then I'll stop posting things here and find somewhere else to write. This is not a threat, it's a promise.

You know it's going to be a fun story...

... when it starts out "Don't worry. No one got hurt."

What happened was this:

At work (I work retail FYI) we have two large dome "chandeliers", the first about halfway between the registers and the front door, and then the second above the "cashwrap" itself. (It's a circle with a small "slice" cut out so we can walk into and out of it). We also have track lighting running down the length of the store to illuminate everything and those tiny bulbs are forever burning out on us. If a day goes by where we don't have at least one blow, it's a miracle.

Well, today, the manager on duty was on the 10' ladder to change one of those bulbs next to the cashwrap chanelier, and I was on the other side of the counter, helping someone. ALl of a sudden, that chandelier decided to reproduce the ending of Act 1 in the Phantom of the Opera. It just let go and crashed to the floor. The dome in question hit first (it's about 3-4 feet across BTW) and it just shattere. Glass everywhere behind the cashwrap and everyone was staring at it, stunned. We joked about it afterwards, but we both know we were kucky. If either of us had been under it - Gods forbid! - we probably would have been critically injured, and if we'd both been on the ground when that glass shattered, we'd have been cut up real good.
